  • Hello everyone, it appears that I am crap at updating my xanga. But in my defence I have been just a tiny bit busy lately. I started my art group before Christmas, which has extended my working day by 1/2 an hour every day, sometimes later when the boss keeps me working, and I have got a part time job as a researcher, which is interesting but again takes up sleeping time. There's a big fancy job coming up at work which I quite fancy going for, but again would mean more work. And staying in Lincoln a bit longer. It truly is the black hole!

My cat is a bit poorly at the moment; my parents give me little status updates by text about her condition regularly but they don't sound that optimistic which is a bit shit.

    Irony, (n):

Buying an umbrella (a very nice fancy umbrella that is black and shaped like a Victorian parasol) in an attempt to arrive at work unrained on - something I haven't managed all summer.

Checking the weather forecast daily and carrying said umbrella to work and back several times when rain was forecast, but didn't arrive.

Taking the umbrella to Birmingham for the weekend and losing it on the train before ever having used it.

Going to work the next Monday and getting rained on.

(I replaced the umbrella today, and the girl in the shop was so aghast at my sob story she gave me £2 off the price. Result!)

We went to Birmingham last week to visit Sarah and Craig, which was fun, apart from losing the umbrella, which was rather galling. We went to the dog track in Perry Barr and I won lots, which was also fun . I also discovered I like Wii golfing, boxing and Rayman dancing. Maynard has a cold but I seem to have avoided it so far, which I have been a bit smug about.

We're looking at buying a car on Monday. I also start doing the voluntary work in an art group for people recovering from mental illness which should be fun, although I have to make up the time by working til 5.30 each night, but since I do that most nights anyway, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

  • I had surgery a couple of weeks ago. Laser surgery, which I think is the best kind there is!! And because the anaesthetist fucked up I got superstrong painkillers, 8 times more powerful than morphine. Which was nice. I'm healing really fast, even better than last time, and the surgeon (who was very good by the way) said that they got rid of all the bad stuff, and the hormones appear to be stopping any new bits appearing so to all intents and purposes I am cured. Woo! I remain slightly sceptical as endometriosis isn't really a curable disease (you can even get it after going through menopause!) but will be optimistic all the same.

Work continues fine, I got a payrise recently which was good, and the average age has been lowered as 2 20 somethings have been transferred over from Gainsborough which is a breath of fresh air. I'm also starting voluntary work in late November as part of an art therapy group which should be really interesting and fun. It's a couple of hours a week, and work have said I can use flexi time to attend, as I work pretty late most nights anyway.

I saw an enormous spider in the kitchen the other day, but before I could do anything other than scream hysterically it waddled under the (defunct) washing machine where I hope it has remained since. I have to check my shoes every morning now to make sure it's not decided to set up house in there - the idea of thick hairy spider appendages touching my toes makes me want to hurl .

This is a picture of Maynard as the Terminator at an 80s party we went to recently. I was an 80s career woman but didn't look as hot as he does so you don't get to see a photo.
